Homecoming 2014 (Hoo hah!)

By 1:26 AM , , , , , ,

Mega-late post, but this year's Homecoming nails! Our color and theme this year were red and Gatsby, but unfortunately, as I have neither gold striping tape nor a thin nail art brush, I couldn't do an art deco geometric design. The alternative was the all-out red blingy look – complete with nail piercing, gem, and stud. Gotta go hard for the final year.

This was my first nail piercing, so I didn't dare perforate my actual nail. Instead, I took a plastic nail tip, cut it down, and pierced it with a hot needle. Much reduced risk of burning flesh! Unfortunately, I lacked the acrylic necessary to fill the rest of the nail, soooo there's somewhat of a bulge where the false nail starts. Oh well – nothing copious glitter and strategically placed white lines can't (somewhat) hide. :^)

Of course, I had to do a compilation of my previous Homecoming nails. Different grades have different color schemes; blue for freshmen, yellow for sophomores, black for juniors, and red for seniors. In 2012, I had no yellow polish (still hardly have any), so no mani that year. I'm pretty glad I'm not still where I was in freshman year, though! Those uneven white stripes and splotchy blue "sprinkles." Yikes.

Sadly, I lost the metal stud after day one of HC. It was fun while it lasted! (The gem and the false nail/ring stayed intact.)

HC week was absolutely amazing. I'll be honest – this year was the first where I've genuinely felt class spirit. There is no mode of expression that can sum up how I felt as I watched my classmates perform on stage as part of our final HC skit. So much pride, emotion. At risk of getting gross and sappy, I'll just say that I'm going to miss my class a whole lot when we graduate. That statement ended up being far less sentimental than I had thought it was going to be, but I'm just awful at that kind of expression. Trust me on this one.

Back to nails! For this mani, I used a fairly wide range of polishes.
  • Wet 'n Wild Black Creme
  • NYC Big Apple Red Creme (bright cherry red creme)
  • Julep Nan (muted soft red creme)
  • Color Club Be Bold (oxblood red creme)
  • Julep Hope (satin finish white creme)
  • Essie Leading Lady (crimson hex glitter in crimson jelly base)
  • Zoya Storm (black scattered holographic)
  • Zoya Blaze (deep berry scattered holographic)
  • Nicole by OPI Orna-ment For Each Other (warm red/orange/yellow finely milled glitter)
  • Del Sol VIP (photosensitive silver/holographic glitter in clear => red base)
I have a fairly extensive backlog of manicures to post... Hopefully I can edit them all quickly. :( (My current nails are short and square, but you'll likely be seeing a ton of almond/stiletto nails for a while.) It's currently second semester of senior year, so I've got a bit more time to relax and maintain this blog!

Hope you enjoyed :)
